Suppliers Strut Their Summertime Stuff at CTA’s Hot Toys Media Preview

LIttle Tikes Wet 'n Dry Bouncer from MGA Entertainment gets a bums-up rating.
Canadian Toy Association suppliers, who participated in the recent Hot Toys for Summer media event, couldn’t have improved on the weather or asked for a better venue to showcase their summer wares than the grounds of the Toronto Zoo’s busy African Pavilion.
Under brilliant sunshine, 40 CTA member companies displayed more than 100 products, ranging from activity toys and rainy-day crafts to the latest in bikes and balls. Over 20 youngsters – toddlers to tween-age — were also on hand to help demonstrate each product’s features for visiting media.

Given the summer-like weather, it was not surprising to see many of the young demonstrators gravitate to the outdoor active-play toys – enthusiastically test-driving items, such as MGA Entertainment’s Little Tikes Wet ‘n Dry Bouncer, Tech 4 Kids’ Angry Birds Blast ‘n Launch, and Spin Master’s massive Titan Glider. And it looks like traditional chalk and bubble fun is going to be just as hot as ever with vacationing youngsters, if the attention given to outdoor-play products, such as Crayola’s Sidewalk Chalk, Stortz & Associates’ Chalktrail, and International Playthings’ Backyard Blast Bubble Machine, is any indication.
In addition to the cavalcade of innovative outdoor items, CTA suppliers also brought along loads of exciting games, figures, activity toys, and craft products – all designed to keep kids entertained on those inevitable rainy days at the cottage or even when travelling. Several are sure to be hits with families this summer, including Kroeger Inc.’s Find It At the Zoo game, Playmobil’s Tyrannosaurus & Volcano playset, D’Artagnan Distribution’s Papo Galactic figures and Borgfeldt Canada’s Compact Curling game. But two companies – PlayMais Canada, and Bloco Toys — definitely deserve a big nod for creating timely craft/activity kits that tie into the Toronto Zoo’s new show-stopping Giant Panda exhibit, which opens soon. Canadians – but, especially Torontonians — have gone crazy for all things “panda” and, no doubt, Calgarians will follow suit in five years when the exhibit moves to that city.
As usual, with so many fabulous products on display, it’s impossible to give every worthy item a mention. However, below, Toys & Games highlights several great items that especially caught our eye and just may capture your customers’ attention this summer, too.
